NewsSSESSMENTS: Review Of Southeast Asia HDPE Film Market Week 13, March 23-27

Author: SSESSMENTS

  • Middle East origin $750-810/ton
  • Southeast Asia origin $830-880/ton
  • North America origin $780/ton

Comments by market players on HDPE Film market as follows:

An Indonesian trader commented, “This week, offers for HDPE Film from Middle Eastern producers to Indonesia market decreased by $20/ton from last week’s level. So far, no transaction concluded as the import offers deemed unattractive due to the depreciation of Rupiah against the US Dollar.”

“April shipment offers for HDPE Film cargoes from a Middle Eastern producer to Thailand dropped by $50/ton compared to March shipment level,” a local trader in Thailand informed SSESSMENTS.COM.

A marketing arm of a Qatari PE producer voiced out to SSESSMENTS.COM on the PE price outlook in Indonesia and Malaysia. “This week, offers for HDPE Film from the Qatari producer to Indonesia and Malaysia market declined between $10-20/ton on a weekly comparison. At the moment, we are facing difficulties to move HDPE Film cargoes to the market. Looking at the overall situation, the lockdown in Malaysia is most likely getting extended into a few more weeks. Hence, we think PE prices will remain soft due to the unbalanced supply-demand condition.”

“April shipment offers for HDPE Film from Middle Eastern producers to Vietnam are available at $830/ton on LC at sight, CIF Ho Chi Minh Port. However, considering the current demand and market sentiment, we think deals can be concluded at $30/ton lower than the initial offer level,” a Vietnamese trader commented.

“Our April shipment offers for HDPE Film cargoes to Southeast Asia market are adjusted down by $30/ton on the monthly comparison. Southeast Asia market is quiet due to the Coronavirus concern. Malaysia and the Philippines are on a lockdown; Thailand has also announced curfew to curb the spread of the virus. Vietnamese buyers are also adopting a wait and see stance. In short, Southeast Asian buyers are not keen to buy at the moment as demand for the finished products is slow due to the Coronavirus,” a Middle Eastern PE producer informed SSESSMENTS.COM.

“HDPE Film offers from our end to the Indonesia market are dropped by $10/ton compared to last week’s level and the delivery will be in the third week of April until the end of April. So far, our production still running at normal capacity. However, if the condition is getting worse due to the Coronavirus, we are considering to reduce operating rates,” a Thai PE producer commented.

“Compared to March shipment level, April shipment offers for HDPE Film cargoes from the leading Saudi polyolefins producer to Vietnam decreased by $50/ton. The shipment will be from Malaysia or Singapore. Our factories are currently running at 80-85% from normal capacity as demand is slow due to the Coronavirus. We think in the near term, PE prices will remain soft,” a Vietnamese converter informed SSESSMENTS.COM.
