AlwaysFree: Auto Plants Plan To Resume US Factories Production On May 18

Author: SSESSMENTS

After shutting down plants in March due to the coronavirus outbreak, Ford Motor Co, General Motors Co, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV are targeting to resume some production at their US factories on May 18. Following talks with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer's office and United Auto Workers (UAW) leaders, executives from the companies in recent days tentatively settled on the timeline.

While Fiat Chrysler said it will communicate new restart dates in due course, Ford said in a statement it is yet to determine when it will resume production at its North American plants.

It was too soon and too risky to reopen Michigan’s economy and auto plants in early May, the head of the UAW union warned last week. Details have not been provided by Michigan Governor on restarting the crucial manufacturing sector in the state. Data would be the guidance instead of artificial timelines, the governor said.

For reducing exposure risk for workers, the companies are working with the UAW union on drawing up safety protocols. However, those terms haven’t been finalized yet.
