AlwaysFree: BP, SABIC Cooperate On Advanced Plastic Recycling

Author: SSESSMENTS

BP Plc (London) and Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) have inked a new deal to cooperate in developing a circular economy at the Gelsenkirchen chemical complex in Germany. The new collaboration will help to expand the production of certified circular products. These products use feedstock produced from mixed plastic waste. Hence, it could reduce the carbon footprint and fossil fuel needed to produce them.

SABIC uses advanced recycling to convert mixed plastic waste into pyrolysis oil. The oil acts as an alternative feedstock to conventional fossil-based materials to produce certified circular polymers. BP’s Gelsenkirchen refining site will produce the pyrolysis oil, which SABIC will then use to make certified circular polymers at its Gelsenkirchen polymer plants. The certified circular polymers have identical properties to virgin polymers.

BP’s certified feedstocks and SABIC’s certified circular polymers are recognized through the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification plus (ISCC+). The circular polymers are part of SABIC’s Trucircle portfolio and services for circular innovations.
