ConocoPhillips said on December 12 that it had started crude oil production at the GMT-2 oil project in the 23 million-acre National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPR-A). The company expects to pump around 30,000 bpd of crude from the project at its peak. The project development is estimated to be worth $1.4 million, and it was completed within schedule and budget. GMT-2 is the first NPR-A project commercially developed by ConocoPhillips. ConocoPhillips also operates the nearby larger producing Alpine field. Alpine, GMT2 and nearby projects, GMT-1 and CD-5, are tied by pipelines to the Alpine oil processing facilities which separate crude oil from water and gas.
