AlwaysFree: Explosion At Eni’s Livorno Refinery Put Under Control

Author: SSESSMENTS

An explosion at Eni’s refinery in Collesalvetti, Livorno, on November 30 has been put under control, Italian emergency services said. Firefighters from Pisa, Lucca, and Florence were deployed to the site at around 14:30 local time to put out a subsequent fire from the explosion. Collesalvetti citizens reported a column of black smoke preceded by some loud noises. Italian authorities have evacuated nearby buildings and advised residents to remain indoors with closed doors and windows. At least one person has been reported injured. The cause of the blast and the subsequent fire remained unknown.

The refinery produces base oils Group I and II, at a capacity of 591,197 tons/year and 35,000 tons/year, respectively. It remained unclear whether its base oil output was affected. The site had already been idled under scheduled maintenance expected to finish by the end of November. It is still unclear whether the explosion is related to the work or it will be extended because of the recent explosion.
