AlwaysFree: Gas Exporters Book 90% of Yamal-Europe Pipeline’s Polish Section

Author: SSESSMENTS

On Monday, auction results showed that 90% of the Yamal-Europe pipeline’s Polish section is booked by gas exporters in the period of October 1, 2020-September 30, 2021. The reading signals Russia to continue to export gas to Europe via the link.

As shown in the auction results in May, around 92% of June’s capacity and about 80% for the third quarter have been booked.

Russian gas major Gazprom did not respond to comment queries.

Previously, on May 17 the gas transit deal between Russia and Poland started in the 1990s expired. Poland aligned its energy regulations with EU rules and cut its dependence on Russian fuel.

Poland’s gas grid operator then started to sell capacity on the pipeline that carries Russian gas via auctions. The flows via the pipeline slumped significantly in May.

On the other hand, Russian gas supplies to Poland were unaffected by the end of the transit deal in May as they were based on a different contract.
