AlwaysFree: Japan’s Nissan Plans To Slash Production In May

Author: SSESSMENTS

As the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the number of cars produced by Nissan Motor Co Ltd in Japan in May will be slashed by 78 percent from the previous year. Compared with nearly 61,000 units made in May 2019, Nissan plans to manufacture around 13,400 vehicles in May this year.

A big hit to Nissan’s plant in Kyushu represented by this production cut. For much of this month and all of next month, Nissan plans to operate the plant on a single shift. From initial plans to build around 44,800 units, the output will decline 70 percent.

Domestic production will be cut to 33,700 vehicles in June, down 43 percent from a previous plan for around 59,300 and down from around 63,700 units in 2019.

Since early April, Nissan has stopped production at its plant in Tochigi. Through the end of May, it plans to keep output suspended. Since earlier this month, periodic stoppages have been common at the automaker’s Oppama plant in Kanagawa Prefecture. After falling sales in two years, the pandemic has piled urgency on Nissan’s efforts to downsize.
