SABIC on Sunday said that its joint venture with Exxon Mobil Corp. had begun commissioning activities and prepared for an initial startup of its new petrochemical plant in the US Gulf Coast. The project includes capacities to produce up to 1.8 million tons/year of ethylene that will be used as a feedstock for downstream polyethylene (PE) and monoethylene glycol (MEG) units. SABIC said the project is part of its strategy to strengthen its presence in North America which would positively contribute to its consolidated financial statements after the commercial operation starts.
