China’s state-owned Sinopec on Tuesday announced that it had added 104.88 Bcm of proven natural gas reserves at the Baima Block in the Fuling shale gas field in the Sichuan Basin in southwestern China. The Ministry of Natural Resources has certified the new reserve, which brings the field’s total proven reserve to nearly 900 Bcm, roughly 34% of the country’s overall proven shale gas reserves. Fuling is the first large-scale shale gas field commercially developed in China. It has launched 643 wells, pumping over 41.2 Bcm of gas.
