Britain’s Trade Minister Liz Truss on Wednesday said that the UK had not set a deadline to reach a trade deal with the US. Truss also criticized the US administrations for talking a good game about free trade and low tariffs, but in reality keeping UK products unfairly in their markets.
Separately, a spokesman for Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the current round of talks with the US would be completed by end this week after progressing at a good pace. Britain is in the process of renegotiating terms with major trading partners, including the US, after leaving the European Union earlier this year.
Truss said she would be tough in pressing Britain’s interests, including US-planned tariffs on cars and US ban on lamb exports. She expected to finalize a couple of chapters of the deal in the next phase of talks but did not specify which.
