AlwaysFree: Unable To Get Buyer, Flint Hills To Shut Georgia Ethanol Plant

Author: SSESSMENTS

A spokesman with Flint Hills on June 12 said that it would permanently shut ethanol production at its plant in Camilla, Georgia, as it failed to secure an interested buyer. His also added that weak demand and oversupply amid the coronavirus pandemic drove the decision. Flint Hills acquired the 120 million gallon/year plant in 2014 and idled it since May due to weak market fundamentals.

The COVID-19 has squeezed ethanol margins and forced producers to shut or idle their plants. Ethanol is used in pharmaceuticals, as a gasoline blendstock, and in production of various products, including vodka and hand sanitizers.
