AlwaysFree: US March Chemical Rail Shipments Hit 2-Year High

Author: SSESSMENTS

In March, US chemical rail shipments hit the highest level since 2018, said the Association of American Railroads (AAR). On the other hand, the total shipments for all categories were hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

The chemical shipments jumped by 4.6% year-on-year to 5,881 carloads.

10 out of 20 carload commodity categories posted a yearly increase, but the total volume transported declined as the coronavirus is harming the economy.

US carloads of autos and auto parts in the week ended March 28 slumped by 70% year-on-year.

In the whole month of March, the country noted 899,673 carloads, a 6% year-on-year drop. Containers and trailers slumped by 12% from the same period last year.

In the week to March 28, North American rail volume posted an 8.3% fall to 320,231 carloads. Intermodal units plunged by 14%.
