AlwaysFreeRegister: BP Plans To Build $25 Million Waste-To-Feedstock Plant

Author: SSESSMENTS

BP plans to invest $25 Million in the construction of a pilot plant in the US that will process polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste to produce virgin-quality feedstocks for new plastics, the company said. BP will construct the pilot plant in its research and development hub in Naperville, Illinois. The company expects to start-up operations at the new plant in late 2020.

The new plant will test BP’s Infinia technology, a chemical recycling technology that converts PET plastic waste into monomer feedstocks through a depolymerization process. BP claims that the recycled feedstock can be used to produce recycled monoethylene glycol and recycled purified terephthalic acid with similar quality to those produced from the hydrocarbon feedstock.
