Mexico is a major producer of petroleum and other liquids and is among the largest sources of U.S. oil imports. Mexico’s oil production has declined over the past decade, as has the country’s position as a net oil exporter to the United States. Mexico is investing in new power plants to increase electricity generation capacity and to transition to natural gas as the main fuel source.
