AlwaysFree: Turkiye’s Koksan PET Packaging Industry Introduces New Chemically Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET) Production Capacity With Its Patented Process Technology

A producer source informed SSESSMENTS.COM that KOKSAN PET PACKAGING INDUSTRY CO. introduces a new 300 tons/day chemically recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate production capacity with its patent (which is pending) process technology. The plant is designed to produce 100 % rPET Resin which is ready to use for bottle Grade and Textile grade applications.     

Koksan PET Packaging Industry Co, is the biggest PET Resin & Preform producer In Turkey. Having two CP lines of 600 tons (Nameplate cap.) each line per day for PET resin production; it is adding a 3rd CP for rPET with its own unique way of production process. The patent processes of producing BhET monomer and then turning into high viscosity polymer to make the rPET resin is already in use globally but Koksan RPET is differentiating with its unique energy saving production method.  

POLYTEX is chosen for supplying a high viscosity CP-line for a new R-PET production plant as technology provider. On 29th August 2022, the project of 300TPD high IV R-PET CP for various packaging and textile grade applications were officially launched. POLYTEX will provide design, engineering, and know-how on critical components of this project.    

It is an attractive way to address the explosive growth of PET bottle waste and its disposal problems. Chemical recycling through the glycolysis process is turning polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into bis-hydroxyethyl terephthalate monomer (BHET) which is already used in CP lines up to 50 %. The Preform quality with 50 % rPET is as good as virgin polymer, which has been approved by all leading users/consumers. Although the most commonly recycling process are in-plant and mechanical methods, the benefits and opportunities offered by chemical recycling make it as one of the most interesting processes to develop which is one of the best solutions for food grade and medical applications.  

The plant will be ready for operation by the end of the year 2023.

Koksan entered the packaging industry as a tin can producer in 1968. It then shifted focus to PET-based packaging solutions, including jars, bottles, closures, sheets, and pre-forms. According to CapacitySSESSMENTS database, the company is the biggest PET resin and pre-form producer in Turkiye. It manufactures all of its products using the latest technology, allowing for a very high production capacity.
