BASF reached another important milestone in the $10-billion smart Verbund project in Zhanjiang, Guangdong, China on May 30 when it started the piling work of the complex’s first plants that will produce engineering plastics and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) for the Asia Pacific markets. The project was officially started in November 2019.
Haryono Lim, the Verbund site’s vice president, said that the project had been progressing steadily. He said that the plants would start production by the end of 2022 as planned. BASF will apply cutting-edge technologies and the highest safety standards in the new site.
