AlwaysFree: Cameron to Close Louisiana LNG Export Plant Ahead of Hurricane Delta

Author: SSESSMENTS

On Thursday, Cameron LNG said that it would close its Louisiana liquefied natural gas (LNG) export plant ahead of Hurricane Delta’s landfall.

Delta is estimated to hit southwest Louisiana on Friday afternoon, with winds of more than 100 mph (161 kph).

Previously, due to Hurricane Laura, Cameron shut on August 26 and started exiting the outage due to problems in restoring energy service to the plant. It had also waited until October 4 for the first tanker to reach the plant because the US Army Corps of Engineers had to clear the ship channel connecting it to the Gulf of Mexico.

Meanwhile, Cheniere Energy Inc. decreased the flow of natural gas into its Sabine Pass LNG export plant in Louisiana ahead of Delta with Wednesday level fell to 3.5 bcfd from a five-month high of 4.0 bcfd on Tuesday. Refinitiv expected the flow to be at 3.1 bcfd on Thursday.

The impacts of Laura and Delta had boosted gas prices in Europe and Asia to the highest levels since the start of 2020.
