AlwaysFree: Cheniere to Measure Carbon Gas Emissions

Author: SSESSMENTS

On Thursday, the US biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter, Cheniere Energy Inc. announced its plan to measure the carbon emissions from its suppliers and production sites and supply the information to customers.

The company has inked deals with five natural gas producers and some academic institutions in order to commence the quantification, monitoring, reporting, and verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Aethon Energy, Ascent Resources, EQT Corp., and Pioneer Natural Resources Co. have agreed to take part in this program, along with researchers from the Payne Institute for Public Policy, Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, SLR International, and monitoring technology providers Montrose Environmental, SeekOps, Bridger Photonics Inc and GHGSat.

Cheniere is aiming for a clearer understanding of LNG’s participation in GHG and sets up monitoring technologies.

By 2022, Cheniere will provide cargo emissions tags to its customers. It will use ground-based, aerial, and satellite monitoring technologies to establish baseline emissions levels.
