According to Natural Gas World article published on January 19, 2023, Chinese LNG imports in 2022 dropped 19.5% year/year to 63.44mn metric tons, the customs department said on January 18.
The country imported 6.6mn mt of LNG in December, down 13% yr/yr. The piped gas imports last month were 3.68mn mt, down 9.7% yr/yr. In 2022, piped gas imports were 45.81mn mt, up 7.8% yr/yr.
Last year, the imports were lower as high global LNG prices and Covid related lockdowns hit domestic gas demand.
