AlwaysFree: Coronavirus Lockdown Eased In Vietnam

Author: SSESSMENTS

Tough movement restrictions will be lifted in Vietnam as most of Southeast Asia remained in lockdown. Since the first infections were detected in January, under 300 cases of coronavirus and no deaths reported by the country.

Although some non-essential businesses will remain closed, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said no provinces in Vietnam were now seen as "highly prone" to the pandemic.

Despite being less wealthy than other places seen as relatively successful such as South Korea and Taiwan, Vietnam has won plaudits for appearing to contain the virus. For nearly a week, it has reported no new infections.

Some early measures also taken by Vietnam.  One day after the country detected the first two cases, flights to China's Wuhan suspended. In public places, wearing masks made mandatory nationwide by March.

State media said social distancing measures will not be lifted in all regions of the country. With a combined population of 12,000 people, two rural villages on the outskirts of Hanoi will remain on lockdown.
