On Monday, Italy’s top gas distributor Italgas expressed its optimism that the company would not feel a major impact of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 as it reported its above-average earnings in the first half.
In the January-June period, the company’s core earnings rose by 6.6% to EUR462.7 million (USD542 million). Analysts only predicted core earnings of EUR461 million (USD540.7 million). Investments in the period climbed by 16% on a yearly basis to nearly EUR370 million (USD434 million).
Italgas has been taking on the digital transformation in the past three years to ensure safety and continuity of service during the lockdown aside from spending on technology to run its grids more efficiently and offer clients services such as remote gas meter readings and gas leakage detection.
However, Italgas said that it could not expect the economic impact if the global health emergency is prolonged.
