AlwaysFree: Malaysia Extends MCO To May 12

Author: SSESSMENTS

The third extension to the Movement Control Order (MCO) announced by Malaysia’s Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.  Under the fourth phase, the MCO will be effective from April 28 to May 12.

The government will also allow university students in hostels to return home. The process to facilitate the movement of some 100,000 students will be done on the advice of the Health Ministry. Before they are allowed to go home, all students must be healthy and do not display any Covid-19 symptoms.

The decision to extend the MCO to May 12 was made after going through the data provided by the Ministry of Health, the prime minister said. He did not mention the possibility to extend the movement after May 12. The developments will be monitored before making any further decision during Phase 4 of the MCO.

Muhyiddin added that if cases continue to show a downward trend, the government may slightly relax MCO regulations in stages to include several sectors including the social sector.
