AlwaysFree: PetroChina’s Daqing Refinery Finished Capacity Expansion

Author: SSESSMENTS

PetroChina’s Daqing refinery has completed its crude processing capacity, along with several other production units following the two-year upgrade.

The upgrade cost CNY4.45 billion (USD651 million), allowing the refinery to process 3 mtpa of Russian ESPO Blend crude oil on top of its current refining capacity of 6.5 mtpa of local Daqing crude.

The refinery also revamped its 1.2 mt hydrocracker and 1.2 million gasoline and diesel hydrotreating units. It also added 2 mtpa fluid catalytic cracker, a 600,000 tpa gas fractionation unit, and two 20,000 tpa sulfur recovery units.

Daqing is expected to produce 180,000 t of propylene, 260,000 t of liquid hydrocarbon, 220,000 t of toluene, and 280,000 t of xylene to supply chemical plants in the region.

PetroChina’s parent company China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) commented, “The upgrade project will help Daqing refinery to break the bottleneck of development, to adjust the structure of units and products, and to improve risk resistance capacity as well as improve profitability.”
