AlwaysFree: Qatar Petroleum to Cut Emissions by 2030

Author: SSESSMENTS

Qatar Petroleum announced its plan to cut emissions from its operations by 2030.

The strategy would establish dedicated Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) facilities to capture more than 7 million tpa of CO2 in Qatar. It will also curb the intensity of the company’s emissions in liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities and in the upstream facilities by no less than 15%. Flare intensities across the upstream facilities will also be slashed by 75%.

Qatar Petroleum has also targeted to eliminate routine flaring by 2030, along with limiting the fugitive methane emissions across the gas value chain by setting a methane intensity target of 0.2% in all facilities by 2025.

The strategy will add more than 4 GW of electric power from carbon-free renewable energy to its portfolio in Qatar, which would diminish more than 5 million tpa of CO2 emissions.

Various initiatives are included in the strategy, including investments in education and technical training in local communities.
