AlwaysFree: QatarEnergy Orders LNG Carriers From South Korea’s Daewoo, Samsung

Author: SSESSMENTS

QatarEnergy on Sunday said it had ordered four LNG carriers from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and another two from Samsung Heavy Industries. QatarEnergy, however, did not disclose the cost or the timeline of the contracts. The company is increasing its LNG fleet to ship additional LNG output from the North Field expansion project that will boost Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 million tons/year today to 126 million tons/year by 2027.

Last month, QatarEnergy also said that it had ordered four LNG vessels from China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group Co for more than QAR2.8 billion ($770 million). The orders are part of a QAR11 billion ($3.0 billion) deal signed in 2020, under which Hudong would reserve its LNG ship construction capacity for QatarEnergy through 2027.
