BP's Statistical Review of World Energy 2020 report stated that Russia is at the top position globally in total proven natural gas reserves with 19.1% or 38 TCM.
Following behind is Iran with 32 TCM, and Qatar with 24.7 TCM on the third. Regionally, the Middle East led the proven gas reserves globally with 75.6 TCM, while Europe is the least with only 3.4 TCM.
On the other hand, the US was the biggest gas producer last year at 920.9 bcm, or 23.1% of the total global gas output. It consumed 846.6 bcm of natural gas in 2019.
Russia was in second place in the consumption with 444.3 bcm.
According to the report, global proved gas reserves are sufficient to meet 50.9 years of global production at 2019 levels.
