US President Donald Trump in an interview with Fox Business Network said he was not interested in talking with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping right now. He even went so far, suggesting he could sever ties with China, the world’s second-largest economy. Trump also blamed China for its failure to contain the coronavirus outbreak from developing into a pandemic.
US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told the Network that China had to provide a lot more information about the COVID-19. He added that the president was reviewing his options to protect the American economy and workers.
Scott Kennedy from the Center for Strategic and International Studies criticizing Trump’s remarks, arguing that cutting communication is an ineffective strategy to solve problems that needed international cooperation. Besides, severing economic ties with China will incur heavy damage in the US economy.
