AlwaysFree: Turkey Broke Records in Renewable Energy

Author: SSESSMENTS

In 2021, Turkey managed to break several records in renewable energy as the country has been cooperating with public and private sectors to add more renewables and local energy resources to its energy mix.

In the first five months of the year, 96.8% of the installed capacity in the country came from renewable sources.

By the end of May, renewables made up 52.6% of the country’s total installed capacity, while local resources made up 64.2%. 56% of electricity production came from local resources, according to the Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez.

The share of wind energy has hit 9.9% in the total installed capacity, getting closer to 10,000 MW.

In May, solar energy broke a record when Turkey produced 1,468 GWH or 5.8% of the overall output.
