Vinnolit GmbH & Co. KG, a subsidiary of Westlake Chemical on September 21 said it had initiated consultations with the works council at its Schkopau site about the closure of the paste polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plant at the complex. According to the company, the closure was driven by the plant’s lack of economic viability and long-term competitive sustainability. Vinnolit expects the closure to be reflected on an accounting charge of about €29 million ($34 million) for the third quarter. The producer said that it would continue providing its customers with PVC supply from other sites at Burghausen, Gendorf, and Cologne.
