AlwaysFreeRegister: India's East Coast Ports Halt Operations As Cyclone Approaches

Author: SSESSMENTS

Ports on India's east coast are moving vessels out of the anchorage and halting berth operations as Cyclone Amphan approaches. The cyclone is moving north-northeast across the Bay of Bengal area. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Amphan is likely to make landfall in a very severe cyclonic storm in southern Bangladesh, and India's West Bengal on Wednesday, with expected maximum sustained wind speeds at 155-165 kmph.

The Adani port group has cancelled all inward movements of ships at its Dhamra port from May 18. Ships berthing along the Dhamra port started heading to the open sea on May 19. Paradip port has also halted all inward movements of vessels. Vizag port has moved Vessels at LPG berths to the anchorage. It also suspends all cargo discharges at the general cargo berth. Gangavaram Port has also followed suit.

State refiners IOCL said it was preparing for the cyclone and expected no operational disruption at its 150,000 bpd Haldia refinery in West Bengal. IOCL is currently running its Haldia plant and 300,000 bpd Paradip refinery in West Bengal at normal rates.
