NewsSSESSMENTS: Anti-Dumping Duty On BOPP Film To Vietnam From Several Countries May Remain

Author: SSESSMENTS

Market players in Vietnam informed SSESSMENTS.COM that anti-dumping duty on import BOPP Film from several countries is expected to remain once the Vietnamese government announced the final decision regarding this matter. Previously in April 2019, local producers requested an anti-dumping investigation to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) on Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) film imported from Malaysia, Thailand, and China.

The investigation started in August 2019 found that significant increases in import volume for BOPP Film during the investigation process caused injuries to local production. Therefore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) issued an initial decision to temporarily impose anti-dumping duty on BOPP Film from those countries on March 18, 2020. The duties range from 14.99% to 43.04% for China origin, 10.91% to 23.05% for Malaysia origin and 20.35% for Thailand origin. SSESSMENTS.COM was informed that the temporary anti-dumping duty remains valid until the end of July. Further investigations are still ongoing for a final decision.

“After the temporary duties are no longer valid, the government will announce the final decision. It is more likely that the government will not remove the anti-dumping duty for BOPP Film of those origins. However, there might be some changes in the percentage for each country depending on the final finding,” one of the market sources told SSESSMENTS.COM.
