NewsSSESSMENTS: Borealis Declares Force Majeure On Steam Cracker Operation

Author: SSESSMENTS

Austria’s Borealis declared force majeure (FM) on its cracker operations in Stenungsund, Sweden, market sources told SSESSMENTS.COM. The FM declaration issued on April 8, is a result of a technical incident, the sources noted. The producer has notified its affected customers of potential reductions of delivered volumes. It remains unclear when the producer will lift the FM.

As SSESSMENTS.COM noted, Borealis’ Stenungsund cracker has a capacity of 625,000 tons/year. It can process a mix of feedstocks such as liquids, ethane, and LPG. Previously, the company said that it had reduced output of its crackers due to the coronavirus pandemic but did not specify the amount of the reduction.
