On Saturday, a local fire took place at the steam cracker at Borealis‘ production location in Stenungsund (Sweden). The local crisis team immediately activated the emergency plan.
After promptly arriving on site, the fire brigade took steps to contain the fire. On the next day, the fire was contained. SSESSMENTS.COM was informed that the impact of the fire is still being analysed.
During this incident, no person was injured. To investigate the root cause of the fire, Borealis is working closely and openly with the authorities. To avoid a similar accident from happening again, every preventive action will be taken.
In addition to 625,000 tonnes/year for ethylene, Borealis’ Stenungsund cracker also has production capacities of 200,000 tonne/year of propylene. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) also produced by Borealis at the site.
