Comments by market players on HDPE Film market as follows:
“Compared to a week earlier, offers for HDPE Film from the leading Saudi polyolefins producer are between $50-70/ton higher. The producer claimed that the company has managed to sell at a higher price and does not have inventory pressure at the moment. As such, we prefer to skip procurement for this week,” a Vietnamese converter revealed to SSESSMENTS.COM.
“We managed to conclude deals for HDPE Film of Uzbekistan origin at $665/ton on LC at sight, CIF Vietnam Main Port basis, the same level to initial offer. The deals concluded were for 6 containers or around 192 tons. We did not submit bids as the offers were already attractive. As we managed to purchase cargoes at such a level, we decided to lower the prices for our finished-products in an attempt to clear out inventory as soon as possible,” another Vietnamese converter reported on April 29.
“We decided to reduce May shipment offers for HDPE Film to Southeast Asia market between $100-110/ton compared to a month earlier. In general, demand in the Southeast Asia market remains weak. Most customers in Vietnam and Thailand were making purchases on an as-needed basis only. While in Indonesia, we are facing difficulties to sell the cargoes due to the expectation for lower prices amid the slow demand as well as weakening Rupiah against the US Dollar. For HDPE Film, big buyers from Vietnam were asking for around $600/ton plus, however, such a level was unacceptable. Moreover, our allocation to the Southeast Asia market is considered small, and we can simply move the allocation to China if we are unable to sell all the allocated quantity,” a Middle Eastern producer reported to SSESSMENTS.COM.
“We received May shipment offers from a United Arab Emirates producer which are stable from last month. However, the offers are too high. While for HDPE Film of Thailand origin, the offers are $60/ton lower compared to two weeks earlier,” a Philippines converter informed SSESSMENTS.COM.
“To Southeast Asia market, we decided to reduce the offers for HDPE Film between $20-30/ton from last week. Recently, price changes were on a daily basis rather than a weekly basis due to the Coronavirus pandemic. On some certain days or only on one day there will be some new low prices available, however, the offers might disappear from the market the next day,” a marketing arm of a Middle Eastern PE producer said.
“We concluded a deal for Middle Eastern HDPE Film cargoes at $720/ton on LC at sight, CIF Indonesia Main Port basis. For Thai HDPE Film, the offer via trader was at $775/ton with the same payment and delivery terms which is too high as local offers are only equivalent to $725/ton-level. Pertaining to the demand, it remains sluggish. The sales for single-use plastic bags and packaging products declined around 30-40%. Satisfactory sales were only seen for medical application plastics, yet the usage of plastic in the medical sector is only around 20%. Hence, the overall demand is sluggish,” an Indonesian converter stated.
