NewsSSESSMENTS: Updates On Cracker Maintenance In Southeast Asia

Author: SSESSMENTS

Malaysia's Lotte Chemical Titan restarted its cracker at its facility in Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru, after a major turnaround since early March, market sources told SSESSMENTS.COM. The cracker was brought online on March 29. It has a nameplate capacity of 415,000 tons/year of ethylene and 234,000 tons/year of propylene.

LCT also restarted its two PP units with a combined capacity of 440,000 tons/year as well as a 230,000 tons/year LDPE unit and a 115,000 tons/year HDPE unit at the same time. LCT managed to complete the turnaround on schedule, although Malaysia has been under a movement control order since March 8. The government allows refining and petrochemical operations to continue under the MCO.

Market sources informed SSESSMENTS.COM that Thailand's Siam Cement Group was likely to delay a turnaround at its 900,000 tons/year cracker planned for April amid the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the revised maintenance schedule is still unavailable.

Meanwhile, Philippines' JG Summit intended to resume operations at its 480,000 tons/year naphtha cracker and downstream polyolefins units this week following an unexpected power outage last week, market sources informed SSESSMENTS.COM.
